The Hawker Typhoon Preservation Group exists to raise the funds required to oversee the rebuild and return to flight of the sole surviving combat veteran Hawker Typhoon MkIb, RB396. The overall budget is approximately £5 million and in excess of £1million has been raised since the formation of the charity in 2016. On 1st April 2020, the 75th anniversary of RB396’s final flight, a new Platinum tier to the Supporters’ Club was launched. The formation of the Platinum Club has allowed supporters to take the next step by contributing at a level that has enabled the rebuild to accelerate, whilst breaking down the estimated remaining budget into manageable amounts. The Platinum Club has limited spaces and when its membership is filled, the rebuild will be fully funded.
Your membership to the Supporters’ Club will allow the rebuild of the RB396 to be finished. In turn, you will receive exclusive benefits as a most grateful thank you. You will become an enabler of the most exciting warbird restoration project in the UK and even the world.
The aim of the Platinum Club is to find 1000 members who are in a position to contribute £4000 over four, five or six years and in doing so raise £4million and allow the rebuild to accelerate. This tier offers unique experiences and benefits and is limited to 1000 members.
First and foremost, for every Platinum Club membership, one namespace will be allocated on the aircraft. This will be a permanent namespace, etched into the very metal of the Typhoon and visible whilst the aeroplane is on the ground. The space can be your own, that of a company, family member and/or veteran. Many spaces have been claimed to date by families of Typhoon veterans, wishing to make their name live forevermore on the finished memorial.
Introduced on 1st April 2020, the Platinum Club has already raised or pledged in excess of £200,000, despite the global pandemic. Contributing at this level has a significant impact on the rebuild effort. Contribute as a single donation, annually, or monthly by Direct Debit starting from £55.00.

You can help us return RB396 to its rightful place in the following ways.
The cost of rebuilding RB396 and the engines to power it will be significant and be in the region of £5 million. This may sound like a daunting figure but we take our inspiration from the story of this amazing aircraft and the men who flew it. Being a charity, we can also claim ‘Gift Aid’ from the Government (an extra 25% on your donation) – this all goes a long way to help. With every donation, no matter how large or small RB gets closer to being back in the skies. If every one of our followers and supporters on Social Media were to donate just £2 every month, then that would see the £5 million target exceeded in just over 4 years – something to think about.
Ways to donate:
If you prefer to use PayPal, please use the button shown. PayPal takes commission for donations and GiftAid declaration must be completed separately. You don’t need an account, but please be aware PayPal do take a commission on any donation. However, that is better than no donation.
We are registered for Gift Aid, if you have made a donation or taken out membership and you are a UK tax payer please consider completing a Gift Aid Declaration so that we are able to claim back the tax that has been paid on it. It doesn’t cost you anything on your original donation and enables us to receive 125% of your donation.
Buying items in the shop grants generates vital funds to put back into the project whilst giving you something tangible. It also helps that our merchandise is unique, looks great and it helps to spread the word.
If you know about, or perhaps you have genuine Typhoon parts, please Contact Us. We may already know about certain parts but it is surprising how much is out there that we are not aware of. In particular we are looking for any information about the wings and the tail area. Any leads or parts could be crucial to restoring this amazing aircraft to the skies and of course we can return any parts once we have the engineering information. It is our long term goal to establish a Heritage Centre dedicated to the story of the Typhoon and her crews, so, if you have anything that you feel would be suitable to be put on display there, please let us know.
Spread the word
Never underestimate the power that “word of mouth” carries, it has been the largest contributing factor to date. If you like what you see, please tell others and share the story.
Take a charity day
Almost all large companies give their staff a number of Charity days in a year, on top of annual leave. Most people don’t know about it. So, perhaps you could ask your company if they do, and if they do, perhaps you could volunteer a day for the project? This, in turn, helps to generate income, at airshows, events, and other schemes.
Run your own fundraiser
Are you taking on a challenge, running a marathon, half marathon, a 5k, a cake morning or a birthday fundraiser? Whatever the event, being a registered charity, the funds from your event can come to the project, and don’t forget they could be eligible for Gift Aid, see above. Facebook fundraisers are becoming popular, with Facebook claiming $300 million raised in one year. It takes a little effort to set up, but if 1000 supporters were all able to raise £50 through some sort of charitable activity, then that is half the total required to complete the rear fuselage…
You can leave a lasting legacy of your support by leaving a gift for the Hawker Typhoon Preservation Group in your Will. Please tell us about it so that we can ensure your wishes are met, especially if you have a specific idea for the way in which the gift is to be used. A gift could include money, a percentage of your estates or Hawker Typhoon parts and ephemera. For more information please contact us at: [email protected]
easyfundraising.org.uk turns your everyday online shopping into free donations for your favourite cause. How? Just start your online shopping first at easyfundraising, then shop as normal. Their retailers will then make a small donation to say “thank you”.
They have 3,757 retailers to choose from and so far have raised over £28 million for thousands of community groups, schools, sports clubs, small and large charities across the UK. Easy!
Do you use Amazon for purchases? Well, if so, with one extra button click you can earn a percentage of the purchase for the project. At no extra cost to you. All you need to do is ensure you use the “Amazon Smile” webpage, rather than “Amazon” itself. The two look identical, you get all the features, Prime, all the products, the lot. But, by going through Amazon Smile and nominating the Hawker Typhoon Preservation Group, Amazon donate 0.5% of the Net purchase price of every sale to us. But only if you go through Amazon Smile initially. 0.5% doesn’t sound like much, but the average spend of an Amazon Prime member is approximately £1100 per year. If 0.5% of that went to the project, that would be £5.50 per person, so if everyone did this, it could earn a significant amount of income for the project in a year. You need to go to smile.amazon.co.uk and register us as the Charity to receive the donation and make sure to use that webpage for all visits, instead of the main Amazon page.
Shop on AmazonSmile and Amazon donates to Hawker Typhoon Preservation Group, at no cost to you.
All donations are received by the Hawker Typhoon Preservation Group which is a Registered Charity (1167143) dedicated to rebuilding RB396. The project can only exist through the generosity of its supporters. Any donation, no matter the size, is gratefully received and most importantly by UK law can only be used to benefit the charity’s goals.
If you chose to donate, please remember to consider Gift Aid which allows us as a Charity to claim back the Tax paid by UK tax payers and grants us 25% more funds at no extra cost to you, the donor.
